Nothing but nature – unique, spectacular nature
The Texel Mountain Nature Park is the largest nature park in the region and comprises the entire Texel Mountain range – a long stretch of high mountains between Schnals Valley / Val Senales in the west and Val Passiria / Passeier Valley in the east. Pfossen Valley, right in the centre of the park, is the home of the largest number of wild animals in South Tyrol. In fact, more chamois and ibex live here than the entire human population of Schnals Valley! Splicing through the fascinating natural and cultural landscape of the Texel Mountain Nature Park, the Merano Pass is one of the most breathtakingly beautiful hiking trails in the entire Alpine region. Nearly 100km long, the whole trail takes from 4 to 6 days to hike. There are numerous points for entering and leaving the mountain trail, meaning you can begin or end your hike wherever you like. The trail is divided into a north and a south circuit, so visitors can enjoy the varied scenery year-round. Hiking maps and information are available at the hotel and from the Schnals Valley tourist authority.
Juval Castle, home of Reinhold Messner
Situated on a prehistoric site at the entrance to Schnals Valley / Val Senales, the castle grounds are home to renowned alpinist Reinhold Messner and several of his valuable art collections, including an extensive array of Tibetan art and artefacts, a mountain photography exhibit and a collection of masks from 4 continents. A visit to the village of Karthaus / Certosa is like a journey into the past. The town was built inside the walls of the Cloister of Certosa degli Angeli / Karthaus Monastery, which was founded in 1326 and abandoned in 1782. Of particular interest is the Via Crucis of the old cloister, which in summer plays host to exhibitions by renowned local artists.Sheep migration
Every year for hundreds of years in mid-June, some 3,200 sheep make the trek from Hochjoch / Giogo Alto and Niederjoch /Giogo Basso to the alpine pastures of Venter Valley / Valle di Vent in Austria. In mid-September the sheep commence their return journey. This tradition-steeped event regularly draws crowds of spectators who come to enjoy the funfair atmosphere. That’s Schnals Valley / Val Senales.

There’s something for everyone!
